How to Publish Your manuscript
There are 3 simple rules to publishing your manuscript.
1. The Language has got to be simple
This sounds easy but in the 25 manuscripts that would typically cross my desk in a year only 4 knew the art of using words effectively. Seee, the subject is irrelevant- you coulb be writing about the mormon covilization or about education in India- but if the chapters are too drythey will put the reader to sleep. So , if you are writing an academic book tyr and keep the sentences short , the refrences crisp and updated and the flow moving. That does not mean that you need to cut down on going indepth into a subject- but make your book feel like a movie in motion- it has to hold the attention of the reader Infiction , this need is amplified 10 times over- after all readers expect a goodtime . So, here the subject has to be dealt with finesse.
2. Target Audience
Before you sit down to write your masterpiece take some time out and think about your potential audience- who is t - is it the academicia, the professionals, studenst or general readers Why is this important- because your book has to talk to them and make sense. So , if you talking to mid-level managers about line management - don't start with ethe basics 9 out 10 bthey know that book by heart. Use real life examples to teach them something they want to knwo.
3. Market Yourself
The good old word of mouth network still works. So, bury your ego and go ahead and announce the release and availability of your books. You could send e-mails, newsletters or just sms your friends and colleagues Trust me this is far more effective than the usual book launch route that publishers go for . It lomng lasting and leads to sales. You could also create your blog wherein you can talk about issues relevant to you and also advertise your book for logging on.
P.S. Tomorow we will talk about self-publishing in India
